If you want to go climbing, here’s where I’ll be. I’d love to have you out, so let me know if you’re interesting in joining me in any of these fantastic destinations.

October 2009: Red Rocks, NV – Thursday the 1st through Tuesday the 6th, I’ll be taking the AMGA Rock Guide Exam in Red Rocks and afterwards I’ll be sticking around for a few weeks to enjoy some personal climbing as well as some guided trips. Through a partnership between Timberline Mountain Guides and Jackson Hole Mountain Guides I’m happy to offer climbs and courses to anyone interested. Let me know if you’d like to come out.

November 2009: Transient climber. Possibly Joshua Tree, possibly more Red Rocks. Working and playing. Maybe even revisiting that route that got away up in the Beartooths. Wanna come? Let me know.

December 2009 – February 2010: Colorado. Ice climbing in the San Juans and lots and lots of skiing. Ouray Ice Park, Telluride and Silverton backcountry climbs. Ice, ice, ice (and mixed). During this period I’ll also be instructing avalanche courses in the San Juan with Southwest Adventure Guides and likely in the Elks with Crested Butte Mountain Guides. More detailed information on Ouray and Colorado ice climbing check out the site here. Also let me know if you sign up for an avy course so I can be sure to join you.

January 2010: El Pico de Orizaba Expedition, Puebla, Mexico. Hopefully I’ll have another opportunity to take part in another successful Timberline Mountain Guides Expedition to climb Mexico’s highest, 18,496′ Orizaba. A great trip with everything from firm cramponing to delicious tacos. Spaces are still available for the 2010 expedition which will run from January 18th through the 27th. Check out the TMG website here for more information, and check out pictures from last year’s trip here. Be sure to let the office know you heard about it through me so I can come along!

March 2010: Probably more Red Rocks, probably some more skiing. Expedition prep time.

April-May 2010: Alaska! Work is TBD at this point, but will most likely be another course with AMS. The main event is also TBD. Research is in the works. Mt. Deborah? The Troll? The Ruth? Oh the decisions. We’ll come up with something.

Summer 2010: Back to Northwest. Mt. Hood, Smith Rocks, The Oregon Cascades, The North Cascades, Washington Pass – all the good stuff. I’d love to put together some big trips into the Boston Basin area, I’d love to get into the Liberty Bell Group, the Pickets, Mt. Shuksan; all kinds of stuff. Let me know. Check out the TMG website for all things Northwestern.

Good heavens. That’s as far ahead as I can plan.

Christopher Wright

My name is Chris Wright and I'm a mountain guide. My short story is that I was born in the UK, grew up in Pennsylvania and live and work year-round as a mountain guide and avalanche educator in Oregon, Alaska, Colorado and points elsewhere. I'm a member of the American Mountain Guides Association, and am a Certified Rock Guide as well as an Alpine Guide Aspirant. I guide mostly technical alpine and rock climbing, with the occasional expedition and ski trip thrown in there. I'm AIARE Level III Certified and instruct AIARE Level I avalanche courses as well.

In the spring I work in Alaska with the Alaska Mountaineering School, in the summer and fall I live in Bend and work for Timberline Mountain Guides, and in the winter you can most likely find me on Orizaba or in Ouray.

At almost all times you can find me with a pack, a rack and a rope pretty close by.

You can check out photos from all of my trips at the Zenfolio link below, and shoot me an email at chris@timberlinemtguides.com if you're interested in putting together a trip to climb in the Oregon Cascades, Washington's North Cascades, Ouray and Silverton ice climbing, or Mexico and Ecuador's volcanos.

I am a Certified Rock Guide with the American Mountain Guides Association. This means that I've achieved the highest possible certification available in the field of rock guiding. Let's go climbing.
