Sliding on snow, on one stick or two, is pure fun. Ephemeral, high up, magical, all for pleasure - the best.
Powder or corn, mellow or steep, winter or spring, on skis or a board - when it’s good, it really doesn’t get any better.
There’s something hard to describe about the pure joy of a day in the backcountry with friends. The rhythm of the skin up, the excitement of the down, the clean, cold air and the burn in your legs - it’s all a part of what makes backcountry skiing and snowboarding in the mountains feel so special season after season.
From classic tours to traverses and ski mountaineering adventures, we love the freedom of moving through the mountains on snow as much as our guests. When conditions align it’s pure magic, but with the right people, it’s always good.
Whatever your snowy dreams look like, let us know and we’d love to take make them happen. All of our backcountry ski and splitboard programs are custom-tailored to fit our guests, and here are some of our favorites.
Cascades Ski Mountaineering, OR
The Oregon Cascades are good place to ski in winter, but they’re a great place to ski in spring. With most of our mountains way out in the wilderness, winter can make their slopes hard to reach. But when the roads re-open and the corn harvest is prime, our ski and splitboard mountaineering and spring riding are hard to beat.
May and June are almost guaranteed to be good, with great weather and spring snow in abundance. Mt. Hood and the Three Sisters all offer amazing ski mountaineering objectives from steeps to classic and mellow descents, so give us a hollar if getting up to get down sounds like your thing.
Lofoten Islands, Norway
They call Lofoten “The Magic Islands,” and when you’re there it’s not hard to see why. One of the most unique ski destinations on the planet, we’re there every single winter. The combination of fjords, powder, northern lights and a cozy home base at the Lofoten Ski Lodge is hard to beat. Plus skiing to the sea is pretty fun too.
Most years, from February through the middle of April we’re working with some of our favorite people in the world at Lofoten Ski Lodge and Northern Alpine Guides. Thanks to COVID we’re suspending our 2021 season, but check out them below, and if you want to ski with the fjords or get on a ski and sail trip in 2022, be sure to let us know.
Revelstoke & Rogers Pass, BC
Is it the best human-powered touring venue in the world? Hard to say, but it’s definitely in contention. With hundreds of miles of wild mountains and the perfect location for deep, stable powder all winter long, visiting British Columbia’s Selkirk Mountains should be on every backcountry skier and snowboarder’s to-do list.
Along with our guests, we usually try our best to visit most years, but thanks to COVID, we won’t be making it up in 2021. If somehow you can, give our friends at Revelstoke Backcountry Guides a hollar instead. We’re sure they’ll be able to show you a good time, and we’ll have our operations back up and running for 2022.
We just want you to know we’re fluent in snowboard too.
There’s been a lot of “growth in the splitboard sector” lately, but we want you riders out there to know we’re not paying lip service - we’ve been doing this for a while.
